This photograph captures the intricate details of the stone reliefs on the grand staircase of the Apadana Palace in Persepolis. The central panel, which sits between the two flights of stairs, features four beautifully preserved figures of Achaemenid soldiers, two facing left and two facing right, creating a perfect symmetry. On the triangular face of the adjoining staircases, the reliefs continue. The upper panel depicts the powerful symbol of a lion attacking a bull, a common motif in Achaemenid art. Below this, a procession of smaller soldiers is carved in a single file line, adding to the grandeur and narrative of the structure.
